A BUSINESS COACH OR MENTOR IS NOW A MUST!

A survey published in the "Daily Telegraph" revealed some very interesting statistics.  "Many businesses now regard their business coach as being important as their accountant," a new survey claims.

The survey found that one in two (50%) small businesses viewed their business coach as vital.  Further, one in ten (10%) of those surveyed nationally said they would not be in business if they didn't have a business coach.

Only one in five (20%) felt the same way about their accountant, according to the survey.  One in every four (25%) respondents believed business coaches helped make the numbers grow in their business, while accountants counted and checked the numbers, it found. 

It also found one third (33%) of small businesses surveyed identified cash flow as the biggest challenge they faced and almost nine in ten business owners (90%) nationally did not outsource services.

NETWORKING - AN ESSENTIAL "FUEL" NECESSARY TO MAKE SMALL BUSINESSES SUCCEED!

Networking is one of the key marketing tools every small business owner should use - whether it be at a business meeting, a gathering of family and friends or simply having a walk in the park! 

Certainly the internet is a major component of everyone's working lives and it will become more so.  Where do you do your research - at the library or on the internet?  E-Marketing seminars are held on a regular basis teaching people the importance of this facet of business. 

There a many functions, societies and groups which allow business people to meet, share information about their business, and meet others where there is a natural synergy between your businesses.  These include Chambers of Commerce, networking and local business groups.

Like everything, we need to think about the way we network.  Effective communication is vital to ensure you get the right message across to achieve your objective.  Remember, people need to know you, like you and trust you before they do business with you on a regular basis, and refer others to you for business as well.

In thinking about this, Bob Burg's book, "Endless Referrals" has some very interesting points - and to quote him briefly consider these:

*    Whenever possible, make others feel good about themselves.

*    The four key ingredients in a successful networking recipe are truth, justice, peace and love.

*    There are seven networking disciplines:

     1.  Acquire knowledge.
     2.  Place yourself in front of potential networking prospects.
     3.  Be wise by learning from others - especially your networking prospects.  Learn how you can help them.
     4.  Give unrequited referrals.  Help others in your network without expecting an immediate payback.
     5.  Be tactful.  Tact is the language of strength.
     6.  Allow yourself to be rewarded with endless referrals after showing persistence.  Follow through in gratitude.
     7.  Realise that discipline and networking are nothing more than learning how to benefit from being the "boss of
          yourself" so that you can constructively help and influence others to network.  We are ideally put on earth to
          help others.  And, of course, as we help others we invariably help ourselves.
